a cargo draft and damage survey includes reading draft marks, assessing cargo damage, writing a damage limitation plan and comparing to the vessels draft tables. verifying damaged cargo must be done as soon as identified. as cargo surveyors, emp investigates the circumstances and if possible will identify the cause of the damage.

DRAFT SURVEY:

In case of bulk cargo such as ore, coal, grain, etc... A Draft survey is the best way to determine the weight of cargo loaded on or discharged from a vessel. By calculating the initial displacement of the vessel (prior to loading or discharging) and then calculating a final displacement (at the completion of loading or discharging), the weight of the bulk cargo can be determined.

In order to produce an accurate draft calculation several other factors have to be taken into account and measured before the weight of the cargo loaded or discharged can be determined. These include the density of the water and changes in the quantity of ballast and the consumables on the vessel between initial and final draft readings.

Access to the vessel draft tables is also required to allow for trim and deformation corrections.

CARGO DAMAGE SURVEY:

When a damage occurs to your cargo, it is necessary to determine the extend of the damage to the cargo, but also possibly to the carrying unit. Damaged cargo must be verified as soon as it has been identified, latest at the time of arrival of the vessel and cargo at the destination.

By investigating the circumstances leading up to the damage, the potential causes are identified, the extent of the damage is recorded and a damage limitation plan can be presented.

At the end of each survey a fully detailed report is issued, including several pictures, technical drawings, recommendations and other useful information.
